State Dept Coverup: Did US Diplomat Approve Deal on Shoddy Ammunition?
This morning, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice will get a letter from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform about allegations that the U.S. Ambassador to Albania held a late-night meeting with that country’s Defense Minister and approved “removing evidence of the illegal Chinese origins of ammunition being shipped from Albania to Afghanistan by a U.S. contractor.”
That’s AEY, the company whose 22-year-old owner Efraim Diveroli was recently arrested and which was given a $298 million federal contract with the Army to supply ammunition to Afghanistan security forces? The old, decaying and defective ammunition was purchased in Albania and “manufactured in the People’s Republic of China between 1962 and 1974.”
