Studies that Prove the Obvious:
Drunk Hip-Hoppers, High Househeads
This is the first installment in a new feature in which we look at the plethora of superfluous scientific (and pseudo-scientific) studies that prove the obvious, such as the fact that a healthy diet reduces the risk of cancer.
This study, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, examines the drug-crime connection within the electronic dance music and hip-hop nightclub scenes.
So how much in taxpayer money did the government shell out to learn that hip-hop fans like to smoke blunts and girls in clubs often get called “bitches,” in between getting their drinks spiked, by horny guys?
Among the study’s conclusions:
* Ecstasy and cocaine use, property crime and vandalism are common at EDM clubs.
* Alcohol abuse, marijuana use, physical and sexual assault are common at hip-hop clubs.
* Ecstasy and cocaine use, binge-drinking and alcohol abuse are more common at commercial events than underground ones.
* Intra-racial violence was most often perpetrated by whites against minorities and at “Asian parties.”
* The most common form of sexual assault experienced by females “was being called a ‘bitch or whore’ by a male after a female turned down his dancing request or sexual advance.”
* ”Unwanted groping or fondling of female clubbers by male clubbers was reported by nearly all of the female respondents.”
* About 1 in 4 women had their drinks spiked
* And the most obvious conclusion: “Similar to assaults in general, physical assaults were most often committed by males. The assaults were acts of bravado - influenced by the club’s environment – and about women or small personal affronts.”
