The National Priorities Project’s Website calculates the cost of the war in Iraq and outlines what could be done with all that money here at home, divided up by county and state - in terms of schoolteachers, police officers, port security guards, health grants, job training programs, etc.

U.S. total = $318.5 billion (That is $2,844 for every American household or $1,075 for every American. The money - already spent or allocated - is being spent at a rate of $10 million per hour and $244 million per day.

New York State = $28.5 billion

New York City = $10.6 billion
