- Non-profit organizations received about $25 million in grants from the Department of Homeland Security in 2005. (In New York City, 220 groups applied for the grants but only 113 received them, totalling $6.3 million.) In some areas, such as Anaheim, CA, not a single nonprofit applied for the grants.
