Random Searches Redux

Does the NYPD have some cause for concern about possible terrorist activity? Or are they just under pressure to put on a show of force for the sake of appearances?

Because our backpack was just searched by cops at the West Fourth Street station for the first time since last June, when they instituted the random searches. And when we got to our station in Brooklyn, there were a few cops at the exits, which is even more unusual. Maybe it’s connected to today’s conviction in the Herald Square subway bombing plot.
