Whistleblowers: Influence Peddling
By Cheney & Pols on Water Plant
Vice President Dick Cheney allegedly pressured the Department of Justice and the Council on Environmental Quality to approve plans for a controversial wastewater treatment plant in Tijuana, Mexico, according to documents uncovered by The Raw Story and soon to be published by the Project on Government Oversight.
Over the past few years, Cheney and a trio of Congressmen - Reps. Duncan Hunter (D-CA), Bob Filner (D-CA) and former congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA) - advanced plans for the proposed Bajagua Project. Back in 2000, Filner and Bilbray coauthored legislation tailored to allow a no-bid contract for the Bajagua project and Bilbray became a lobbyist for the project after leaving Congress in 2001.
Even $100 Million Can’t Buy You Good Press
“IRAQI ARMY DEFEATS TERRORISM”- That’s the headline for a story planted in Iraqi newspapers by the Lincoln Group, which was paid $100 million by the Defense Department for its efforts. The Independent has other examples of their propaganda, including quotes that were routinely fabricated by U.S. troops who never ventured beyond the perimeter of the Green Zone.
“The honest citizens of Iraq, however, need not fear these criminals and terrorists. The brave warriors of the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) are hard at work stopping al-Qa’ida’s attacks before they occur.” That was from a story that neglected to mention any casualties or injuries in Iraq that day.
The reality check: At least five Iraqis were killed by a suicide bomber on a bus in Baqubah, north-east of Baghdad. Bodies of nine Iraqi border guards, who were shot dead, were found previous day. Joint US-Iraqi convoy was targeted by car bomb in the al-Ma’mun area of Baghdad.
